FLUORIDATION UPDATE POST-JANUARY 26, 2010

At the January 26, 2010 meeting the Watsonville City Council did not adopt the fluoridation resolution which would have accepted the CDAF Design Letter Agreement and Fluoride Funding Agreement. Instead, the Council voted to establish an Ad Hoc Committee to further study the matter and report back to the full Council with its recommendations on the potential agreements between the CDAF and the City. The three Council members appointed to the Ad Hoc Committee are Manuel Bersamin, Nancy Bilicich and Kimberly Petersen. The Ad Hoc Committee has been meeting and is evaluating various aspects of the potential agreements. The date for further consideration of the proposed fluoridation agreements by the full Council has not yet been set.

On Tuesday, January 26, 2010 the Watsonville City Council will decide whether to accept a grant of approximately $1 million from the California Dental Association Foundation to fluoridate the water in Watsonville. Fluoridation would greatly improve the dental health of the city's residents, especially children. Salud Para La Gente strongly supports fluoridation.
